Additional Scholarship

The Gail Wright Scholarship

"Gail Wright was a great friend and mentor of many young people during her lifetime. Gail passed away suddenly in July 2009, and many of her friends and co-workers wanted to establish a scholarship in her name. Two of her main passions were everything equine and promoting the education of young people - so an OHSET scholarship seemed to be an appropriate way to remember her.

Gail grew up in the Portland area and started riding jumpers in grade school. She rode through high school, and then needed to give up riding to raise her younger siblings when her parents died. Gail was able to re-establish her connection with horses later in her life - and was involved in riding hunt seat, stock seat, reining, working cow, team penning, and trail riding. As my children made their way through OHSET, she was impressed with the variety of riding experiences that OHSET had to offer. Gail would be proud to know that a deserving youth involved with horses was awarded a scholarship to continue their dreams of higher education." . . . . . . . . Faith Roney, OHSET Judge, and volunteer.

Note: All OHSET scholarship applicants will be considered for the Gail Wright Memorial scholarship, and it will be awarded to the highest overall placing applicant. The scholarship is for $750.00 and will be dispersed in the same manner as the OHSET monies.
