Understanding Bios
OHSET is in the process of creating a new Judges database that we hope to have online for next season. We would like to collect bios and help start building the database.
Below are some example Judge Biographies.
Judges please send a photo and a bio via email to Kdishon@ohset.com
Karen Bragg has been a horse trainer, breeder and riding instructor for more than 40 years. While specializing in Arabian horses, Karen has professionally trained and shown horses of many different breeds and disciplines including Saddle, Hunter and Western Pleasure, Hunter-Jumper, and Harness. Karen has always used dressage principles in training both horses and riders and has schooled successful dressage exhibitors in venues from 4-H to national breed competition.
Karen is an Oregon Horseman's Association judge and is a certified Drill team judge with 6 multi state drill team associations. Introduced to OHSET at it's conception, Karen judged the first OHSET meet ever held, and has been actively judging OHSET ever since.
Margaret Mendoza: My professional life in education with young adults is a segway to my
being an OHSET judge. Judging for OHSET from its inception allowed me
to use my equestrian and educational skills. Those equestrian skills
were instilled through study with a Belgian Olympic medallist and through knowledge gained in the ring as well as through mentoring many riding students over 40 years.
Keeping current with rules and changes in the industry allows me to be
able to adjudicate classes giving feedback that not only comes from
years of experience, but and understanding of what is needed to achieve
even greater equestrian success.
Bill Burke: Being and OHSET judge since its inception has allowed me to use my profession, educator in elementary school, and my avocation, the equestrian arts, to work with young adults and be able to share my knowledge from both areas.
I began working with horses is in 1959 on the East coast. In the past 50 years, through mentoring by Olympic medalists from Poland and the Netherlands, as well as with varied clinicians, I have gained a better understanding of movement, equitation, and the bio-mechanics that make up this sport.
Presently, I am preparing my Trakehner for Third level as well as him being and eventer. In September, I restarted the Thoroughbred that I got off the track last November when he was 2 1/2 yrs old.
Please feel free to visit my web site: www.burkeshireglen.net for more in-depth information.
Thanks,
Bill Burke
Karissa Dishon: As a Performance exhibitor I showed in 4-H, Open, as well as AQHA. I also rode Gymkhana for 10+ years and actively showed in WHO, CBRC, as well as AQHA. My AQHA performance history includes multiple All Around titles in youth and open divisions, and I am a 5 time qualifier and exhibitor at the AQHYA World Show. As a coach and instructor, my students have won multiple OHSET state medals, as well three consecutive team event top five finishes.
I have been an OHSET Judge for 3 years and have been actively involved in OHSET for 6 years. As an OHSET judge I have had the opportunity to judge in four out of eight districts. At the 2009 OHSET State Championships I judged three individual events and one team event. Besides judging OHSET, I also judge Open shows as well as 4-H. My primary expertise includes In Hand Events, Western Performance Events, IHOR, Pairs, Drill, Hunt Seat, and I am also qualified in Driving, Saddle Seat, and Timed Events.
